Before Nappy Roots was a hip-hop staple in the south, they first began as a rap group in college. The once 6-man crew turned into 4 after two members branched off to do solo careers. The group formed at WSU in the mid 90’s. Which as a result, they evolved into a multi-platinum selling, GRAMMY-nominated, 3 hits on the billboard top 100, feature with Anthony Hamilton, and a Madden 2003 remix of their own song. In addition, September 16th is “Nappy Roots Day”in their home state of Kentucky.
Nappy Roots is far from new to the music scene. In other words, these pioneers have been in the music industry for decades from the mid 90’s to present day. The group has had many albums over the years the latest album was in 2017 called “Another 40 Akerz”. Their next album “40RTY” is set to release tomorrow 9-25-20.
808Blake, who produced Big Boi & Sleepy Brown’s new hit ” Cant Sleep “ is in the making of the project by executively producing the upcoming album 40RTY.
Along with working on the album, Nappy Roots In 2020 has dropped some singles such as “Backroads, Footie Socks & Ice Cream, and Do Better“
This week, Nappy Roots released a new uplifting single, “Do Better“, in other words it is a stride to do better in treating each other.
Meanwhile, Nappy Roots has been in the game for over 20 years now. Since then the two-time GRAMMY-nominated hip hop ensemble has broadened their horizons past music and started crafting beer in 2017. Which led to creation of their own reality television show “40Akerz & a Brew.”
The show follows the band during their visits to craft breweries across the country. Since their first brew, the quartet has crafted dozens of different flavors microbrews with a range of flavors. These include Watermelon Chiquen & Gritz, The Humdinger, & Kentucky Mud.
